Tropical fish are ambassadors of Hawaii’s natural beauty. Unfortunately, radical activists from the mainland are working overtime to stop Hawaiians from being allowed to collect fish. They’re demanding the Board of Land and Natural Resources refuse to issue permits for collection.
The Board of Land and Natural Resources should work for Hawaii—not outsiders.
The permits are part of a smart sustainability plan that has proven highly successful at protecting fish populations and the reef. Furthermore, techniques for collecting and protecting the fish that are then transported all over the world have never been better. We don’t need to choose between supporting our fishing businesses and protecting the beauty of our home. We can have both.
